Janice Susan (McKay) BeckApril 19, 1962 ~ August 2, 2017 (age 55)
On August 2, 2017, the beautiful, caring, and selfless Janice Susan (McKay) Beck unexpectedly passed away at the age of 55 following a period of illness. Janice was born on April 19, 1962 in Salem, MA., attended St. John the Evangelist Catholic School in Beverly, MA and then Bishop Fenwick High School in Peabody, MA. In 1984, she graduated from Boston College School of Nursing as the class valedictorian. She was commissioned into the Air Force that fall as a Flight Nurse and was stationed in San Antonio, Texas. Her next assignment, Osan Air Base, Republic of [South] Korea was where she met Ron, an Air Force pilot and her future husband. While stationed close together in England, they got engaged and then married on July 14, 1990 in Salem, MA. After marriage, they were stationed in various places including McChord AFB (Tacoma, WA); Moody AFB (Valdosta, GA); and Davis-Monthan AFB (Tucson). Eric, their older son, was born in 1999 in Tucson, AZ. They moved to the Space Coast in 2001 while Ron was both continuing his AF Reserve military career at Patrick AFB and flying as a pilot for Southwest Airlines. They have lived in Heron’s Landing, Viera, along with Janice’s mother, Gloria McKay since 2002, adding their second much-loved son, Alex, by adoption from Ukraine in 2003.
Janice loved being a mother, a wife, and family time as the youngest of nine children. She enjoyed running, the beach, hiking, traveling, and being a part of the Scouting program with Eric and Alex. She enjoyed volunteering with the local SPCA, time with her friends, and community members.
Janice was predeceased by her father, Joseph P. McKay. She is survived by her husband Ron Beck, sons Eric and Alex, and her mother Gloria McKay. Her beloved siblings and their spouses are as follows: David and Ruth McKay, Bob and Kathy McKay, Peter and Janet McKay, John and Ann McKay, Sheila (McKay) and Joe Conley, Debbie McKay and Carter Steger, Patti (McKay) and Rick Berry and Cindy (McKay) and Fredy Martin. She is also survived by eighteen nieces and nephews and their spouses and eleven great nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at Faith Viera Lutheran Church, 5550 Faith Dr., Rockledge, FL 32955 on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the SPCA of Brevard County in Janice Beck’s name at 6035 Sisson, Rd, Titusville, FL 32780.
