Clyde Lester Marotte

May 18, 1934 ~ October 11, 2017 (age 83)

Clyde Lester Marotte “Captain Slim” 83, passed away at Holmes Regional Hospital October 11, 2017.

He was born to Lester and Monna Marotte on May 18, 1934 in Barton Vermont. Although he was an only child, he was close in age and in spirit to his aunt, Janine (Houston) Robillard, and always considered her his sister.

Clyde was a member of the Branford Connecticut High School class of 1952. He served as Sargent First Class in the Army Reserve until he was honorably discharged on September 30, 1960. He held several jobs from mechanic to farmer to asbestos miner before finding his passion: Fishing.

Clyde spent the majority of his adult life on the ocean as a commercial fishing boat captain. He sailed the world fishing and providing scallop surveys. He loved being on the water and considered himself married to the sea. His favorite place to travel to was New Zealand. Clyde loved animals and always had a well-fed cat or two and sometimes a dog or bird on board.

He was badly hurt in a boating accident off the Florida Keys in 2004 resulting in him being unable to go back to fishing. He then worked until January of this year as a security guard at the cruise terminal for McRoberts and then USSA at Port Canaveral where he made several very good friends.

Clyde has organized and provided seafood for several charity dinners and he maintained a local feral cat colony. He is known for his jokes, stories, and his generosity.

Clyde was happily married to Margaret Marotte from December 2006 until she passed away in 2012. He has 3 children who miss him very much: his daughter, Renee (husband Steve Conley), and 2 sons, Clyde II (wife Patty), and Paul (wife Tracy). He leaves behind 5 wonderful grandchildren: Rachel, Zachary, Nicholas, Jasmine, and King. His prior marriages include his loving friend, Nancy Jo, Carol, late mother of his son, Paul, and Barbara, mother of Clyde II and Renee. Clyde also leaves behind his former son in law, Michael Sevigny, who he always called son.

Please join Clyde's family for Memorial Services at 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at the Atlantic Mortuary, 117 Barton Avenue, Rockledge FL and a following Celebration of Life at the VFW Post 4534, 3250 US Highway 1, Rockledge, FL.
