Fred spent three years of devoted military service in the United States Army Security Agency (ASA) and in the Army’s professional football and baseball teams in West Germany and Europe. After his military service he earned a B.S. Degree from Central Michigan University.

Fred was a talented athlete in football, basketball and baseball and an avid sports fan.  He had tremendous pride in both the University of Florida Gators - the school where his son Lance graduated and grandson Tristan graduated and is currently enrolled in the Linguistics Ph.D. program. He also loved the University of South Carolina Gamecocks, the school where his daughter Lisa graduated and his grandson Will plays football. He also enthusiastically followed the Detroit Lions and Tigers.

Fred loved sports, golf, music, travel, self-growth, meditation, gardening and art. He was most happy spending time with his friends and family. He and his wife, Norma, traveled throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Greece.

He is predeceased by his parents Margaret and Theodore Verner, his brother T. James Verner (Jim).  He is survived by his wife Norma Jeanne Verner, his son Frederick “Lance” Verner (Eva), daughter Lisa Register (Stuart) and two grandsons Tristan Verner and Will Register.  He is also survived by his sisters Marilyn DiLaura (Dick), Delphine Jarred, sister-in-law Marge Verner, brother-in-law Dave Bell (Linda), sister-in-law Beverly Bell (Mitch), cousin Audrey Gaines and multiple nieces and nephews. Fred was a practicing Catholic and a Godly man who was honored to be named Godfather to his grandson Will Register and Confirmation Sponsor to his niece Allison Bell.

Fred was absolutely adored by everyone who knew him. He was a talented conversationalist and lit up the room with his positive and caring personality. He made everyone in his presence feel special and loved.

After a 2013 diagnosis of illness Fred and his wife vigorously pursued all health options.  He was planning a summer road trip the day he passed.
