James Christopher Mitchell
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Christopher Mitchell. Jim passed away peacefully at home in Titusville on January 16, 2018 at the age of 73 after a long battle with cancer.
Jim was born on September 20, 1944 to James and Rosalie Micciche and grew up in Phoenix, Arizona. He proudly served in the US Navy during Vietnam. He worked for over thirty years as a truck driver, receiving numerous safe driving awards, and also worked as an electrician and construction foreman over the years. He was a self-made, self-taught man and could learn to do anything. Always his wife’s greatest mentor and supporter, Jim retired at 50 years old in order to support her career goals. And even as he battled cancer, his focus and concern was for his wife and her future rather than for himself.
Jim loved to travel, via cruises or RV trips, and visited all 50 states and over 35 countries in his lifetime. He loved cooking and having a houseful of people to enjoy the meals that he prepared. Family and friends could always rely on Jim to lend an ear, offer advice or to just engage in a lively conversation. He had a great sense of humor, enjoyed a friendly debate and loved dogs. He raised two Labrador puppies for Guide Dogs for the Blind, volunteered with his certified therapy dog and also volunteered with the Red Cross.
Jim will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Dale Lewis Mitchell, his soulmate and best friend for 40 years. Jim will also be dearly missed by his very large extended family and network of friends from around the country.
Say not in grief: “He is no more”, but live in thankfulness that he was.
A Celebration of Life Open House will be held on Sunday, February 11th, at Jim and Dale’s home in Titusville from 1-5 p.m. All family and friends are welcome to attend the open house to share your stories and memories. An interment ceremony will be held at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in North Mims on Monday, February 12th at 11:00 A.M.
